Gut Problems

Providing nutritional support before and after surgery to the head and neck, oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, small bowel and other parts of the intestines, as well as for medical issues such as coeliacs or crohns has been a large part of my clinical experience. If you have ongoing issues, get in touch.

Nutrition for men

New Zealand men on average die 4 years earlier than women. It doesn’t have to be this way. We should be looking after ourselves better, not drinking as much, doing more activity, and eating better.

But it often helps if the health professionals we saw understood us. Unlike other Dietitians (95% are female), I won’t tell you to eat rabbit food.

Nutrition assessment

This is the assessment of your nutritional status through the use of a combination of anthropometric tests (weight, height, and body composition), biochemical tests (blood, urine, and stool) and dietary assessment methods (food records, diet history).

Other tools in the toolbox include the subjective global assessment (SGA), and the measurement of trace element status via skin, hair and nails.

Weight Gain

Do you struggle to gain weight? Aren’t sure if you’re digesting or absorbing nutrients properly? Does your child have faltering growth?

We all know that we have an obesity epidemic, but there are also people who are underweight and struggle to put weight on. This is one of my special interest areas.

Other

I have significant clinical experience with insulin-dependent diabetes, renal failure on dialysis, neurological disorders, lung diseases including cystic fibrosis, and organ transplants including heart, lung, liver and bone-marrow.

Virtual consultations are available if you live outside of Gisborne. Please get in touch.
